Meg Dornfeld, RN - President

I was born in California and spent most of my childhood in Huron, South Dakota.  I always wanted to become a nurse but was also attracted to learning other languages. I graduated from college with a major in German and a minor in Art.  I am now also proficient in the Spanish language.  In my early thirties, I returned to school to get my degree as a Registered Nurse.  I worked in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics in Minneapolis, MN for almost 29 years. Not only was I a bedside nurse but also taught the Neonatal Resuscitation Program to nurses and was a preceptor for new nurses.   My husband and I raised three sons and have many “adopted” grandchildren! My favorite pastimes are golfing, reading, traveling, hiking and photography. Being the director of Baby’s Breath Project is a very rewarding experience for me. Not only do I enjoy the friendships that are created with our volunteers, but I also cherish the relationships with the many Guatemalan midwives, nurses and firefighters who attend our classes and who are very dedicated to learn infant resuscitation skills.

Christi Johnson, RN

I have been a NICU nurse at Children's Hospital in Minnesota since February 2015, and I absolutely love my job—especially when I get to attend "birthday parties" (AKA deliveries) as part of my role in the NICU. The Baby's Breath trip in 2024 will be my 7th trip to Guatemala, where I teach the Helping Babies Breathe curriculum. Before becoming a nurse, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Deaf Education and Early Childhood Special Education, followed by a Master of Nursing. My previous career was in education—I worked as an early childhood special education teacher, a deaf adult basic education teacher, and a DeafBlind intervener (just like Anne Sullivan!). Outside of work, I love dancing and teach Zumba whenever I can. Traveling, hiking, and backpacking are also some of my favorite ways to spend my time.

I recently retired after a fundraising career at Catholic Charities, which supplies the basic needs of food and shelter to folks in crisis. Baby’s Breath addresses an even more fundamental need – the very gift of breath.  What a privilege to support an organization that provides lifesaving training and resources to babies in need.

Cecilia Rosales Reed

I was born and raised in Guatemala, where I trained as a physician. I currently live in Minnesota with my husband, Tim. My father, Dr. Jorge Mario Rosales, is one of the physicians at Roosevelt Hospital who helped the Baby's Breath Project transition from the hospital setting to training midwives in rural communities. He introduced me to the Baby's Breath Project during my medical school years. I am passionate about maternal and child healthcare, and this project has always been very close to my heart, since it is saving babies' lives in my home country.

Tim Dornfeld- Treasurer

I worked in the nonprofit world for my entire professional life as an organization leader, business administrator and accountant for churches and smaller nonprofits. In retirement I enjoy golf, walking, travel, catching up on my (too long) reading list and not having to rush from one thing to another. I am excited to offer what help I can as treasurer of Baby’s Breath Project to make sure all of the financial and administrative concerns are in order so everyone else can focus on the mission of educating midwives in Guatemala.

I am Dr Jeffrey Oseid. MD.  I am a retired primary care physician living in Minneapolis with my wife, professor Julie Oseid. We have three grown children and one grandchild all living in Minneapolis. My interest in the Babies Breath Project stems from its local roots and from my admiration for the amazing, dedicated nurse educators who make the Babies Breath Project so meaningful.
